We have come to an end of another very exciting and successful season in 2012/2013!
On the Diamond, all our club teams had a successful and fun season. Our U7’s won their division at the Cockburn carnival. Our Pulse Realty team won their u11’s division at the Yokine Carnival. Melville had four teams entered into the Teeball State Championships with our u11’s and u13’s teams taking the trophy in their respective divisions. Our Pre-State carnival was a huge success raising a lot of much needed funds for the club as 32 teams from around the Metro area converged on our club for a full day of Teeball.
Our own Little League (u13’s) Baseball team also took out their charter championship, finishing the regular season on top of the ladder which was a fantastic result and proves that transitioning from Teeball to Baseball is a successful pathway.
Off the Diamond, the club held many successful events including our ‘Surf & Turf’ night before Christmas. This was so popular, even Santa flew in for a visit causing games in progress to be temporarily abandoned as Santa threw out Lollies to all the players and their siblings!! Our fish and chip night in February and QUIZ night were fun events for both Players and Parents to relax and socialise within our Club.
None of this would be possible without the Tireless efforts of volunteers! Our committee, coaches, managers, umpires, line markers. Parents helping in the canteen, setting up diamonds, packing up diamonds, helping out at our carnival and wind up etc. etc. etc. The amount of parents that help out at in Junior sports teams is directly proportional to the success of the club. The players may be too young to understand and appreciate the effort that has been put in by their parents, but as they age, some of their happiest childhood memories are likely to be of playing teeball!
Thanks must also go to our many sponsors who support our club and allow us to keep our fees as low as possible.
Congratulations to Robert Read and Sean Ferraz who have been awarded Life membership of the club for their outstanding service to Melville Districts Teeball over many many years. Congratulations also to Tao Potaka who received the Greg Harrison award for service to the club. Tao is not on the Committee, but always comes down to help out around the club, even when his own child isn’t playing.
Looking ahead to next season, we have some fresh faces on the committee and are looking to take the club from strength to strength, On top of bringing back u15’s baseball, we are also considering a Minor League (Machine or coach pitch) baseball competition for our younger (approx 7-10yo) teeball players that may be interested. Balls are pitched from a pitching machine which delivers slow and consistent balls for younger kids to hit. Minor League players would also be Teeball players but training and game times will not conflict. It looks exciting and a lot of fun. There is also an opportunity for our charter to send a team to the Minor League state Championships in Late March.
Also Little League (u13) Baseball is becoming popular so think about signing up next season! Playing LL Baseball at our club ensures that players where age appropriate, can play both Baseball and Teeball as 99% of the time, training times, and game fixtures are set to never conflict with each other.
Check back here mid-year for details of Teeball and Baseball registrations for the 2013/2014 season. Enjoy your winter sports, and see you next season!!
In the mean time if you have any queries please feel free to contact one of our Committee.
Kind Regards
